St. George and Blacks Harbour residents are being targeted in an ongoing phone scam, police say.
A press release from the RCMP says there have been numerous complaints of fraudsters posing as Visa representatives, in order to get sensitive financial information.
The release explains residents are contacted at home, and told there has been suspicious activity on their credit card account.
“When the fraudster asks for the Visa number, expiration date, and the three-digit security number located on the back of the Visa card, that is a sure sign of a telephone fraud scam,” said Sgt. Ross Davis of the West District RCMP.
RCMP ask anyone who has been a victim of the scam to contact police.
