A 21-year-old man from Moncton was killed a snowmobile collision late Saturday night in the Bathurst area.

Two snowmobiles collided on trail, killing 21-year-old driver of one machine

A 21-year-old man from Moncton was killed in a snowmobile collision late Saturday night in the Bathurst area.

Bathurst RCMP say the accident happened in the Nepisiguit Falls area on a snowmobile trail.

Police say two snowmobiles collided, killing the driver of one of them. The driver of the second snowmobile was not injured.

Cpl. Dan Dorais says the collision happened just before midnight and conditions were not ideal.

"Late at night like that — visibility is bad, the trail was pretty rough also," said Dorais. "So, yeah. it's a misfortune."

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
