Saint John is losing about 50 jobs at a local call centre.
Sitel plans to cut the positions between Feb. 26 and April 1, according to a statement issued on Monday.
"This reduction is due to the changing business needs of one client, and is in no way reflective of the quality of customer care provided by these associates," Cynthia Boulter, site director of Sitel's Saint John facility said.
One client project is concluding, but Sitel hopes to redeploy as many of the affected employees as possible to other projects, the statement said.
The company is also pursuing new business opportunities to bring additional employment opportunities to its Saint John site.
Meanwhile, the centre, located at 120 McDonald St., will "continue to provide [about 350] jobs to local residents in support of multiple other clients, who are unaffected by this occurrence," it states.
It's been a rocky few months for the call centre industry in Saint John.
On Nov. 6, Iron Mountain Inc. announced it would be shutting down its Saint John call centre. laying off 200 people beginning in February and ending in December.
On Nov. 14, ExxonMobil announced it would also be shutting down its Saint John office, putting 210 people out of work by June.
Then, on Nov. 26, TD Insurance announced it would be creating more than 275 jobs at its Saint John Client Service and Claims Response Centre by December 2016. Some of the jobs would be transferred from the office in Peterborough, Ont., officials said.
Sitel employs 58,000 people in 23 countries, according to the company's website.
Its global solutions include customer acquisition, customer care, technical support and social media programs.
