Saint John police have part of Lancaster Street blocked off as they investigate violent fight

A 28-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Spencer Eldridge in Saint John on Tuesday night.

Frederick Cormier, Jr. was charged in provincial court in Saint John Thursday.

Anthony Beckingham, 22, was charged with assault with a weapon against Frederick Cormier Sr.

The weapon Beckingham is alleged to have used is a Buick Century automobile.

Cormier Sr., 61, was being treated at the Saint John Regional Hospital for serious injuries from being run over by a vehicle, police spokesperson Sgt. Jay Henderson said on Wednesday.

Saint John police say Eldridge, 23, died from stabbing injuries he sustained during a fight on Lancaster Street West shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
