Eighty Zellers employees in Saint John were told Friday their store will close next year.

Wal-Mart Canada Corp. confirmed it will take over the location at Lancaster Mall as part of a three-way deal with Target and Hudson's Bay Company.

A spokesperson for Zellers said the workers will receive career transition services, but it will be up to Walmart to determine if the workers are given new jobs.

Earlier this year it was announced another Saint John Zellers location at McAllister Mall will become a Target store in 2013.

Target's corporate website said there will be Target stores in Fredericton, Moncton and at the Lancaster Mall in Saint John.

The site said that each Target store in Canada will employ approximately 150 to 200 team members and that "Target will also engage with Zellers associates to make it easy for them to apply for jobs at Target."
