Residents in Saint John’s north end will no longer have to walk along a beach to get to their homes after a city grader fixed their road.
Beach Road was washed out several weeks ago and residents were no longer able to drive to their homes.
Saint John had helped to maintain the private for years but residents had been informed the city would no longer assist in its future upkeep.
Despite the earlier warning, the city sent a grader to the road to help the residents.
Walter Ball, a former Saint John councillor, said the city made the right decision.
"Well, there's some happy faces around the road this morning. It's certainly far better, far better," he said.
"It was a big improvement. There's now a single lane, a single lane, gravel road. It's what we want and that's pretty close to what they've done already."
Residents are continuing meetings with the city to decide who will be clearing the road in the future.
