Saint John fire crews are fighting another fire in the south-central area of the city.

A taxi driver reported the fire at about 4:30 a.m.

The fire broke out in a house located at 16 Pagan Place, which is off of Germain Street.

The area has been blocked to traffic.

Fire officials say the fire started in the basement and moved up to the first level of the two-storey building by the time crews arrived.

The building appears to be vacant.

No one was injured and there was no risk of fire spreading to other structures in the area.

Investigators will be looking into a cause.

This latest fire comes two days after a fire on Waterloo Street left three young families displaced.
