Saint John cop charged with assault, threats
A Saint John police officer has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault and uttering threats stemming from an incident last September.
Const. Chris Messer, 34, appeared in provincial court Monday morning, flanked by the Saint John Police Association president and other union officials.
Messer asked that the matter be adjourned to allow him time to get a defence lawyer.
He will be back in court on May 27 when he will elect whether he wants to be tried by judge and jury, or judge alone.
