Members of Saint John’s Scottish population raised the flag of Scotland Saturday in honour of Tartan Day, celebrating the country’s declaration of independence.

April 6 marks the date on which the Declaration of Arbroath was signed in the year 1320, making Scotland an independent country.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Saint John’s Tartan Day.

During the celebration of all things Scottish there are typically pipe bands, Highland dancing and other Scottish-themed events.

The flag raising took place at Saint John city hall.
