Eight children are among a group of tenants who were forced out of their apartment building because of a fire Friday night in Saint John, N.B.
The fire on MacLaren Boulevard was reported at about 6 p.m. The Canadian Red Cross said two of the four units were damaged extensively, but no one was hurt.
The people living in the two units — two women and six children — lost their homes. Smoke damage is keeping the other tenants — three adults and two children — away temporarily.
The Red Cross said the eight children range in age from one month to 15 years.
Both the Red Cross and the New Brunswick Department of Social Development are helping the tenants with emergency lodging, food and clothing.
