A 56-year-old Ontario man has died following a single-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Saint-Basile, N.B., over the weekend.

The investigation is ongoing, but police believe heavy rain may have been a contributing factor, Cpl. Thierry Malenfant stated in a news release.

The man, who is from Trenton, was travelling westbound near the chemin Des Lavoie overpass on Saturday at about 7:30 p.m. when his vehicle left the road, hit a guard rail and rolled over, said Malenfant.

He was transported to the hospital, but later died of his injuries, he said.

The man's passenger, a 53-year-old woman, also from Trenton, was also taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
