A Sackville man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison, in connection with three sexual assaults in the town dating back to 2009.

Horace Napoleon Karnes, 31, had previously pleaded guilty to all three counts, says RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff Johnston.

Karnes has also been added to the national sex offender registry for life and will serve two years of probation following his sentence, Johnston said in a statement.

Karnes, who appeared in Moncton provincial court on Monday, received four years in prison for two of the sexual assaults and six months for the third count.

He received an additional four-month sentence for two counts of obstructing justice, said Johnston.

Karnes was also sentenced to nine months in jail for being unlawfully in a dwelling and three months for failing to comply with an undertaking, both of which will be served concurrently with his other sentences, he said.

Karnes was arrested on Nov. 7, 2012.
