River Watch officials now expect the St. John River to remain below flood stage in Fredericton, Saint John and Quispamsis for the next few days.

The agency's two-day forecast for the St. John River was calling for a return to flood level of above on Friday or Saturday. However, Thursday's update looking ahead through Saturday indicates the river is expected to remain just below flood stage in those areas.

Continued flooding is expected in Jemseg and Sheffield while the water level of Grand Lake is expected to climb to flood stage on Friday and Saturday.

The City of Fredericton issued an advisory on Thursday, asking that pass holders for the Upper Queen Street parking lot use Frederick Square Thursday and Friday due to rising water levels.

Melting snowpack and ice-cover has caused ice jams in recent weeks and there's still significant snow levels in parts of the St. John River watershed.
