RCMP probe road blockade on Acadian Peninsula
Up to 300 people gathered in Lavillette last Friday
RCMP on the Acadian Peninsula are only now releasing details about a blockade that disrupted traffic in Lavillette for eight hours last Friday.
Up to 300 people gathered along a short stretch of Route 450 to watch as drivers spun their tires on the highway between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Cpl. Scott Myles stated in a news release Wednesday.
Officers who attempted to break up the gathering were threatened and had bottles thrown at them, he said.
Investigators are now seeking the public’s help identifying the individuals who committed offences that day, Myles said.
They are asking anyone with information, or anyone with a video of the incident to contact Neguac RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Meanwhile, police are reviewing videos of the incident that have already been posted on social media websites, said Myles.
