The RCMP confirmed Ryan A. Firlotte was the person found shot outside of a home in Baxters Corner on Saturday evening.
RCMP Cpl. Chantal Farrah identified Firlotte was the person shot and killed as a part of an update into the ongoing investigation.
The police were called to a house on Raymond Drive in Baxters Corner, which is approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Saint John, after receiving calls saying shots had been fired.
The RCMP found three injured men, including Firlotte, who died shortly after the police and paramedics arrived.
The two others were sent to the Saint John Regional Hospital, where they are still recovering from their injuries.
A 35-year-old man was arrested by police and later released.
According to the police, investigators have discovered the shooting happened at a separate location on Route 820 and not at the home on Raymond Drive where the three men were found by the RCMP.
Farrah said in a statement the police have determined the 35-year-old man had been "violently assaulted" by two men in the Saint John area earlier on that day.
"A few hours later, two vehicles went to a home on Route 820. One vehicle had three men in it and they were armed. An altercation occurred and all three were struck by bullets," Farrah said in the statement.
The police are still trying to determine who was in a second vehicle described as a dark coloured SUV.
Farrah said the shooting is thought to have been an isolated incident and all four men involved were known to each other.
The police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
