An autopsy is planned for Monday on the human remains discovered off Wheeler Boulevard in Moncton on the weekend.

The remains were found on Saturday afternoon. A man walking a dog made the grisly discovery near a narrow field behind an apartment complex.

Const. Damien Theriault, with Codiac Regional RCMP, said investigators are still trying to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.

"The autopsy is being performed today, but it is unknown when the results of that autopsy will be available," he said Monday.

RCMP have not released any details of the discovery, including the person’s sex.

Theriault said it’s too early to say whether foul play is suspected.

The investigation continues.
