Edwin Samuel Bradley, 56, has been remanded into custody and ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment after a Woodstock Provincial Court appearance Thursday.

Bradley has been charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, and breaching the conditions of an earlier court order.

The charges were laid after Bradley allegedly drove a truck into Nackawic town hall Monday morning, igniting a fire which devastated the town's fire department.

When asked how he was feeling when walking into court Bradley responded, "Well I won't be taking the insanity plea."

Three Nackawic Fire Department trucks were damaged in Monday's fire.

The fire department is still operational, working from a new temporary location with gear and trucks on loan from other fire departments.

The fire started between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday.  Witnesses say it burned for about 90 minutes before it was finally extinguished.

One firefighter was sent to the hospital because of smoke inhalation and was released on Monday afternoon.

Bradley's next court appearance is scheduled for August 22.
