Police say a man who smashed his car on the Saint John Harbour Bridge ramp early Sunday morning tried to evade arrest by hiding under the bridge.

Police said the man lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the guard rail heading on to the bridge around 2:30 a.m.

He was found hiding shortly after.

A man in his 40s is now being charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident and refusing a breathalyzer test.

Police said the vehicle is badly damaged and the suspect was sent to hospital with minor injuries.
