Pointe-Sapin man surrenders after armed hostage taking
Man released woman after 3 hours
A Pointe-Sapin man has been arrested following a three-hour hostage-taking incident in the eastern New Brunswick community.
The RCMP say they were called to a senior’s residence at roughly 7 a.m. on Monday.
"A man was outside the home carrying a firearm. He had one of the female residents held hostage outside the home. The man and woman are both known to each other," the RCMP said in a statement.
The RCMP’s emergency response team and RCMP crisis negotiation team were also sent to the area.
The man released the woman following three hours of negotiations. She was unharmed.
Even after the woman was released, the man continued to warn police that he may harm himself. But he surrendered to police at around noon.
No one was hurt in the incident, according to the police.
