Two women are dead following separate head-on collisions near Shediac, N.B. on Saturday.

An 18-year-old woman from Grande-Digue died at the scene of a crash on Shediac River Road, north of the town.

Police believe she was driving a car that crossed the centre line while turning and collided with an SUV.

They said the woman wasn't wearing a seatbelt. A man and woman from the SUV were taken to hospital.

It happened around 3 p.m.

2nd crash near Shemogue

Around 10 p.m. the same day, a 44-year-old woman from Melrose died at the scene of a crash on Route 15 in Shemogue, about 30 kilometres east of Shediac.

Police said a car travelling eastbound crossed the centre line and collided with a car heading west. 

The driver of the eastbound car was taken to hospital and is in critical condition.

The woman who died was driving the westbound car. Another woman, and a young boy with her were also taken to hospital.

Police say investigations are ongoing in both cases.
