An autopsy was performed Thursday on the body of a 19-month-old child in New Brunswick who died after being struck and injured by a lawn tractor.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Mark Gallagher told the Fredericton Gleaner the incident on Wednesday in Long Settlement was a "tragic mishap."
"It was purely accidental and that's as much as we have right now," Gallagher said.
One of the child's parents was operating the lawn mower at the time. The child was apparently not aboard the riding mower but was playing in the yard while it was in operation.
"Your heart has to go out to them," said Gallagher, who added that it was a reminder to parents to be aware of their children's whereabouts, especially when operating machinery around the home.
