Moncton man threatens to set girlfriend on fire, police say
Paint thinner, lighter used in attack, RCMP report
A man doused a woman in paint thinner and threatened to set her on fire in Moncton, N.B., Saturday night, police said.
The woman, 24, walked into the police station Sunday morning and made the allegations, Cpl. Lynn Tardif said.
"The boyfriend had poured or sprayed paint thinner on her and had made a threat that he would burn down the apartment and her. At that point, there was also a physical assault against her. He lit a lighter when making that threat towards her,” Tardif said.
Police arrested the 30-year-old man at the apartment the two share. He faces charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
Tardif said the woman was distraught when she made the allegations, but is doing well.
