A man accused of dousing a woman in paint thinner and threatening to set her on fire over the weekend is facing three charges.

Shawn Ezerskis, 30, of Moncton, appeared in provincial court on Monday.

He is charged with assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Ezerskis has been remanded in custody following a bail hearing.

There is a publication ban on the evidence presented and the judge's reasons for detaining him.

Ezerkis will return to court on Thursday to elect how he wants to be tried and to enter pleas.

RCMP said a 24-year-old woman walked into the police station on Sunday morning, complaining that her boyfriend had poured paint thinner on her the night before, lit a lighter and threatened to set her and their apartment on fire.

The woman was distraught, but doing well, police said.
