Moncton company's Archie Comics video game a hit on iTunes
Ranked in the Top 3 for games and Top 5 overall within its first day of launch
A Moncton company's newly-launched Archie Comics video game is a hit on iTunes.
Within its first day, the joint venture by Gogii Games and Archie Comics cracked the Top 3 in games and Top 5 overall in Canada on the iTunes charts, said Gogii Games' founder and president George Donovan.
The mobile interactive game, called Archie: Betty or Veronica, is scheduled to be launched internationally during the Comic Con International convention on July 18, he said.
It features the beloved Archie comic book characters of Riverdale High, including Archie's two love interests Betty and Veronica, undertaking challenges and going on quests.
"Archie is an icon, and we have worked hard to create a virtual Archie universe worthy of the brand and the fans," Donovan said in a statement.
Seeking player feedback
The game, currently available for iPhone and iPad devices, will be improved before the international launch, based on player feedback, he said.
"What’s great about this kind of game, is that we really get to listen to our players. We can give them exactly what they want," he said.
"Our Canadian audience is really going to influence the game going forward."
Later versions are also expected to support Android.
Gogii Games has already enjoyed international success, having developed more than 70 games to date, said Donovan.
"We're always courted to be in other countries and other provinces even, but I've made a significant effort to focus on being in Moncton," he said.
"And, you know, the talent pool that we have and we continue to grow from, I think we still can be."
The video game developer signed the deal with Archie Comics in March 2012.
Archie Comics is the world's largest mass-market comic book company, with more than two billion comics sold since its debut in 1941.
