A brawl in downtown Moncton over the weekend, which was captured on video and posted on YouTube, has led to a police investigation.

The nearly three-minute video, called Girls Fighting: Night Life Gone Bad in Moncton, shows several people pushing and punching one another while many others look on.

It was posted on Sunday and as of Tuesday afternoon, has already had more than 46,000 views.

Police were called to a fight at Robinson Court on Main Street in the early morning hours of Monday, said Sgt. André Pepin.

"We did look at the video and we're trying to determine if it's the same" incident, he said, citing some discrepancy in the posting date and when police were called.

"One guy was arrested and was charged for assault causing bodily harm," in the Main Street incident, he said.

Coun. Dawn Arnold says the YouTube video was forwarded to her by a few citizens and she has sent it to the superintendent of police, the Downtown Security Committee and the city's manager of corporate security.

"It's distressing, it's not humanity at its finest that is for sure," she said. "There are some issues and we're going to need to clean them up."

Arnold says she recently spent some time driving around with Codiac RCMP at night and was surprised to see what happens in Moncton in the overnight hours.
