The fire that destroyed the Millville fire station and village office was caused by arson, an investigation by the office of the provincial fire marshal has concluded.

The fire, which started early on Monday morning, gutted the building and destroyed two fire trucks and other equipment.

Millville Fire Chief Justin McGuigan estimates the damage will be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"This case has been handed over to the RCMP for further investigation," a statement from the Department of Public Safety states.

Keswick RCMP are leading the criminal investigation into what caused the suspicious fire, according to a statement from the police.

RCMP are asking anyone with any information about the fire to contact them.

The Millville fire came one week after a similar fire at the Nackawic Town Hall and fire department.

That fire started after a man drove a vehicle into the building.

Edwin Bradley, 56, faces several charges in the Nackawic fire.

He was ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment and to return to court on Aug. 22.
