Mechanical failure cause of Grand Manan ferry cancellations
Coastal Transport bringing in back-up vessel for support
Coastal Transport Limited has cancelled all trips on Friday for the MV Grand Manan Adventure due to a mechanical failure on the ship.
Murray Ryder with Coastal Transport said they do not have the details of the mechanical problem as of yet.
A back-up vessel will be brought in to fill the void of the Grand Manan Adventure in case the problem takes a long time to fix. Ryder says he expects the service to be back up and running by Saturday afternoon.
This is not the first time the Grand Manan Adventure has run into mechanical trouble.
In March, the Adventure was docked at Blacks Harbour after the turbo charger system overheated, causing a malfunction.
The 82-car ferry, which is the only year-round link between Grand Manan Island and the mainland, has been back and forth from dry dock numerous times.
The $68-million provincial government-owned ferry is only about two years old.
