The pickup truck flipped on Highway 2 after the driver lost control, say RCMP. (RCMP)

A single vehicle crash on Highway 2 in Charlie Lake on Tuesday has claimed the life of a man and woman from Perth-Andover and left the driver hospitalized.

A pickup truck was travelling eastbound at about 1:30 p.m. when it hit the gravel shoulder, the driver lost control and the vehicle flipped, say RCMP.

Donald Alan McQuade, 49, and Lisa Dawn Hitchcock, 42, who were both passengers and not wearing seatbelts, were thrown more than 30 metres, Cpl. Andy Munro stated in a news release.

McQuade died at the scene, while Hitchcock died en route to hospital, he said.

The driver, a 44-year-old man from Carlingford, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital, said Munro.

It appears the truck was travelling at the posted speed limit of 110 km/h, according to an RCMP reconstructionist, he said.

The investigation continues.
