Sgt. Benoit Jolette said police were called to the area south of Balmoral around 7 p.m.

Jolette said it appears the man failed to navigate a sharp turn and hit a tree.

"The gentleman died on scene. We're speaking of a 51-year old Balmoral, New Brunswick man, and in this situation police at scene were able to determine that alcohol may have been a factor."

Jolette said the initial call to police indicated two snowmobiles were involved in the crash, but that was not the case.
