Lightning struck a Saint John, N.B., neighbourhood this weekend, damaging at least one house.
"I actually felt the couch shake and I jumped a good foot off the couch," said Morgan Lanigan, who was home when his neighbour's house was hit.
"I saw out of the corner of my eye a very bright flash of light, followed by the most incredible boom I have ever heard in my life. It sounded like a cannon had gone off at my house."
Lightning hit a few metres from his couch and struck a house across the street Saturday. The bolt apparently hit a telephone pole and crossed to a backyard, exploding a post holding up a porch.
Shards of the post sprayed across the lawn. No one was injured.
