The death of an inmate serving a life sentence at Westmorland Institution for sex offences will be reviewed, says the Correctional Service of Canada.
Garnet Gogan, 81, died at a Moncton hospital on Thursday, according to a statement.
He had been serving a life sentence for sexual offences since 1954.
"As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified," the statement said.
Gogan's next of kin have also been notified.
Westmorland Institution is a minimum-security facility in Dorchester.
The campus-style jail houses up to 228 male inmates.
