An investigation is underway after an inmate at the maximum security prison in Renous was assaulted last week.
Correctional Service Canada says the Atlantic Institution inmate was discovered injured on March 2 at about 10:30 a.m.
He was evaluated by staff and transported to a hospital for treatment, assistant warden Nicole Gaudet said in a statement on Wednesday.
No information about the inmate's condition, or the nature of his injuries, is provided in the statement.
"The assailants have been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken," said Gaudet.
No staff members or other inmates were injured, she said.
The Blackville detachment of the RCMP and prison staff are investigating.
"In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures," the statement said.
Atlantic Institution, which has a triangular design, houses up to 235 male offenders in "direct observation living units," according to the website.
