RCMP are trying to confirm the well-being of a man, woman and boy who rented boating equipment at Kouchibouguac National Park on Monday and never returned the equipment or advised the park of their whereabouts.

Park officials contacted Richibucto RCMP shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday to report there might be three people missing after conducting their own preliminary search and contacting the Canadian Coast Guard.

The trio had rented one canoe and two kayaks at approximately 1:45 p.m.

An investigation revealed improper documentation was used to rent the equipment, Robert Moreau, the superintendent of Kouchibouguac National Park said in an emailed statement to CBC News.

No vehicle was located in the parking lot near the rental facility, said Moreau.

No one contacted park officials during the day to report the individuals as missing, he added.

"Parks Canada is concerned with the well-being of all of its visitors. At this time, it is difficult to comment further given that the investigation is still ongoing," said Moreau. " It is hoped that the public will be able to shed some light on the whereabouts of these individuals and their identity."

The man is described as being in his mid-30s, bald, with a beard and moustache. He speaks French with a local accent.

The woman is described as tall with a slim build, in her mid-30s, with prescription glasses.

The boy is 12 years old and described as having blond hair to his ears.

It is believed they may be from the Dieppe area.

A search was carried out into the early morning hours of Tuesday with the assistance of Fisheries and Oceans officials, a Coast Guard helicopter, and an auxiliary boat. Further boat patrols were made on July 2 by park wardens. There has been no sign of the missing trio.

Anyone with information about the possible whereabouts of the individuals, or their identities, is asked to contact the RCMP in Richibucto or Crime Stoppers at www.crimenb.ca.
