Hundreds attend fundraiser for family of Garrett Blois, 9
Blois collapsed Monday morning while on his way to school
More than 900 people showed their support Saturday for the family of a nine-year-old boy who died suddenly while on his way to school in Fredericton earlier this week.
Garrett Blois collapsed on a sidewalk on Greenfields Drive Monday morning while on his way to school.
He was rushed to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy determined Blois suffered a sudden cardiac event.
A breakfast was hosted Saturday morning by the boy's former school at St. James Presbyterian Church.
One of the volunteers, Rev. Wendy MacWilliams, said the event was much more than a fundraiser.
"No doubt a lot of financial support was raised for Garrett's family, but there definitely was a spirit of community and support for each other — which is equally important when dealing with a tragedy such as this," she said.
Blois's family said he did not have any known health conditions.
The Fredericton police are still investigating the incident.
