New Brunswick's new Health Minister Hugh John (Ted) Flemming III and Finance Minister Blaine Higgs are leaving little doubt they plan to work together to impose fiscal discipline on the province.

Higgs and Flemming are not only the two most important ministers in the provincial government, they represent adjacent ridings in the Kennebecasis Valley and hold virtually identical positions on the big issue of tackling the deficit.

Flemming campaigned for office on being a Higgs supporter.

He has been leaving no doubt since the byelection that he backs the finance minister's fight to control government spending even though he's in charge of the biggest spending department.
