Gagetown barn destroyed by fire, livestock saved
Fire crews responded to Jack McAllister's farm on Tuesday morning
Fire crews were called to the Village of Gagetown on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m. to deal with a barn fire.
"One of the larger barns for one of our local residents who has a farm and cattle has gone up in flames," said Gagetown Mayor Mike Blaney.
"They were able to get all of the cattle and livestock out of the barn and are now monitoring it to make sure it doesn't get out of hand."
The local volunteer fire department has 30 members, but Blaney said it's likely not everyone was available to respond.
"They are volunteers as are most of individuals throughout the province and depending on any given time, there may be less than the actual 30 that are in action and participating in putting out the fire."
The farm belongs to Jack McAllister, who has had the farm most of his life and continues to raise a number of cattle on the homestead-type farm.
