A winter festival in Fredericton is moving to a location in the heart of the city.

Winterfest will be held on the infield of the harness racing track at the Fredericton Exhibition grounds on Feb. 1-2, 2014.

The annual winter festival offers attractions such as large ice slides, a labyrinth made out of snow, dog sled rides, horse-drawn sleigh rides and snow sculptures. It has been staged at a variety of locations over the years, most recently at a sawmill property on the outskirts of the city.

"It is great to have other festivals take advantage of the facility," said Mike Vokey, executive director of the Fredericton Exhibition. "We hope other events will follow suit and look at this indoor, outdoor facility as an option."

An added attraction to the event will be an entertainment schedule with a Battle of the Bands planned for Saturday evening in the Capital Exhibit Centre on the exhibition grounds.

Gus Mazzuca, the president of the Fredericton Exhibition, welcomes the addition of the event.

"There are a lot of new changes happening at the exhibition facility, positive changes that are good for the city and good for the facility," he said.
