Fredericton man in intensive care following assault with weapon
Police responded to the assault Saturday night on the south side
A man in his late teens or early 20s is in intensive care after being assaulted with a weapon Saturday on the south side of Fredericton, according to police.
Sgt. Justin LeBlanc of the Fredericton police would not disclose the identity of the victim, although he said the man suffered serious injuries and his status is "stable but critical."
Police responded to a call reporting the assault at 7:40 p.m. Saturday. LeBlanc said it occurred in the area of Waterloo Row, near the water treatment plant.
"Police do not believe the attack was random in nature," he said. "The investigation is ongoing."
He would not disclose what the weapon was, although said the victim had not been shot.
No arrests have been made in relation to the assault, and the investigation is ongoing.
