Enbridge crews stopped the gas flow from a damaged pipe on Fulton Avenue and repaired the line.

Eight homes in Fredericton were evacuated on Friday after a natural gas leak on Fulton Avenue.

A line was damaged by contracted road workers shortly before noon, said Ed Armstrong, Enbridge's manager of distribution operations.

Enbridge crews stopped the flow of gas into the two-inch wide piece of plastic pipe, and spent the afternoon making repairs, said Armstrong.

The evacuation order has since been lifted for the eight homes in the north end neighbourhood.

Armstrong is reminding anyone who plans to dig to call Enbridge and find out if there are gas lines in the area.
