Fredericton firefighters were kept busy overnight with more than 30 calls of electrical fires caused by downed lines all over the city.

Platoon Captain Peter McMurtry said the damage was contained to burning trees.

In one case, he said there were sparks showering onto a shed in Marysville.

McMurtry said firefighters kept the line doused until NB Power arrived to take over.

Firefighters were called to a fire at the Royal Bank on Queen Street before 3:30 a.m.

McMurtry said a passerby had noticed the fire and called it in.

The fire started on the building's roof, near the entrance to the bank.

He said it took about 30 minutes to get the fire out. No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Post-tropical storm Arthur hit Fredericton hard over the weekend. The city was pounded by winds that gusted up to 100 km/h.

There were 45,381 customers still without power in Fredericton on Monday morning at 5:51 a.m.
