Foul play is not suspected in the case of a body discovered at Fredericton's Odell Park last month, but the investigation continues, say police.

The cause of death has not yet been released.

"An autopsy was performed, and we are currently waiting for those results," the Fredericton Police Force said in a statement issued on Monday.

A review of dental records to confirm the identity of the body is also pending.

The person's name will be released once next of kin have been notified, the statement said.

Fredericton High School students discovered the body in a remote wooded section of the park on April 28 at about 9 a.m. while walking the trails.

The body was down an embankment, about a 15-minute walk from the entrance to the 162-hectare park.

It's unclear exactly how long the body had been there, but police have said it was quite some time.

Fredericton police currently have two missing person files open, but officials have said it's too soon to say whether either are related to the remains.
