A firefighter was injured while battling a house fire in Rothesay, N.B., overnight.

Kevin Clynick, platoon chief for the Rothesay fire department, said the fire on Rothesay Road broke out at about 1 a.m. Sunday.

The home sustained extensive damage in the fire, which flared up several times while crews were trying to put it out.

One firefighter was sent to hospital with minor injuries to his shoulder.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The fire remains under investigation.
