Moncton firefighters raced to Route 126 Thursday night after receiving a report that several vehicles were on fire in New Scotland.
Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet said the vehicles were in the backyard of a home, and they feared the flames could spread to the house.
Fire crews from Saint Paul were also called in for support, but the situation was quickly resolved.
"When we arrived on scene, we found several cars that were burning," he said. "We knocked the fire down and mopped up."
While it's too soon to confirm the cause, Gaudet says they have a theory.
"We expect that the owner was doing some work on the cars in the backyard and there may have been a possible ignition of sorts."
New Scotland is located approximately 29 kilometres north of Moncton.
