A fire destroyed a camp and damaged five vehicles at Harvey Lake, southwest of Fredericton, early Tuesday morning, say fire officials.

Six people at the camp escaped uninjured, says Harvey Fire Department Chief Jerrad Swan.

The call came in at about 12:45 a.m., and when firefighters arrived, the camp was completely engulfed in flames, says Swan.

Twenty-four members of the Harvey Fire Department fought the fire, with help from the Upper Kingsclear Department to haul water from the nearby lake.

Firefighters were on the scene until about 5 a.m.

Swan says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
