England and Mexico will be among the teams that will play in Moncton this summer in the FIFA Under 20 Women's World Cup.
Nigeria and the Republic of Korea were also selected to play in Moncton as the other teams in Group C through a draw that took place Saturday in Montreal.
Moncton will also see the United States play China and Ghana take on Finland in games involved teams from other groups.
"At the end of the day it's pretty cool to see 10 of the 16 teams that are comprised of the most able female athletes in the soccer world under 20," said Moncton city manager Jacques Dubé, who was with the city's delegation to the draw in Montreal. "It's kind of a cool thing to have that level of competition in our city."
Dubé says Moncton plans to offer both sporting and cultural events to complement the games played in the city.
"There's a lot of ethnic and cultural possibilities," he said. "We plan on putting on fan zones downtown, engaging MAGMA (Moncton Multicultural Association) for example … trying to work this into not only a sporting even, but a cultural activity as well — cultural celebration of sorts."
The event takes place from August 6-20.
