The province's Emergency Measures Organization has issued a weather advisory, warning an extended period of freezing rain could cause power outages and lead to localized flooding.
As of six p.m. Wednesday NB Power was reporting 109 customers were without power in the Sackville-Port Elgin area.
"Residents are advised to have an emergency preparedness kit ready and be self-sustaining for at least 72 hours. Surfaces such as highways, roads, and walkways will also become hazardous, and travel is not recommended while freezing rain is ongoing," the statement said.
EMO is also reminding people that streams, tributaries and rivers "are not frozen as they would normally be this time of year ... it is not safe to cross waterways on foot, by snowmobile or by ATV."
