Edmundston fire leaves 8 homeless
No one was injured in blaze
A fire at 14 and 16 Ferry Ave., near downtown Edmundston, severely damaged a four-unit apartment building, driving eight people from their homes early on Tuesday. No one was injured.
Six adults and two children have found temporary accommodation with friends and relatives within the community. Red Cross volunteers have provided them with clothing, food, blankets and personal-care kits.
Firefighters from Edmundston and neighbouring Madawaska, Maine, received the call just after midnight and remained on the scene for several hours.
Two tenants were rescued by ladder from a second-storey balcony.
Edmundston fire chief Mario L'Italien said the blaze appears to have started outside near the back of the building.
Police and the New Brunswick fire marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
