Dorchester inmate dies in prison's hospital
Alcid Benoit, 81, had been serving indeterminate sentence since 1987 for sex crimes
An inmate at Dorchester Penitentiary, who was serving an indeterminate sentence for sexual offences, has died.
Alcid Benoit, 81, died at the institutional hospital on Saturday, Nadine Boucher, spokesperson for the Correctional Service Canada said in a statement on Monday.
Police and the coroner have been notified, she said.
The Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident, as it does in all cases involving the death of an inmate, said Boucher.
Benoit had been incarcerated since June 1, 1987.
His next of kin have been notified.
Dorchester is a medium and minimum security facility for about 550 male offenders.
