A profile of Harrison McCain has earned New Brunswick author Donald Savoie a spot on the short list for one of Canada's most prestigious literary awards.

Savoie's book, Harrison McCain: Single-Minded Purpose, is one of three finalists for the National Business Book Award.

"Savoie, an academic and author, provides a comprehensive profile of a remarkable Canadian businessman and entrepreneur," states a news release issued Monday announcing the finalists. "He chronicles the circumstances and relationships that shaped Harrison McCain’s professional style and success.

"Based on McCain’s personal papers, the book is a family history, individual biography, business case study, review of public policy in Canada and a “how-to-succeed” manual."

The other finalists are:

  • Jim Leech and Jacquie McNish for The Third Rail: Confronting Our Pension Failures;
  • Nina Munk, for The Idealist: Jeffrey Sachs and the Quest to End Poverty,

The finalists were selected by a seven-member jury.
