Covered bridge damaged in Charlotte County
Closed for repairs after being struck by car on Monday
A 103-year-old covered bridge in Charlotte County sustained "significant" damage when it was struck by a car on Monday, according to provincial government officials.
The Maxwell Crossing Covered Bridge will be closed for repairs until further notice, Department of Transportation spokeswoman Judy Cole stated in a news release.
Department officials are still inspecting the bridge and assessing the damage, Cole said.
Plans for repairs are being made, she said. No other details have been released.
The bridge was built in 1910 and is 18.3 metres long, according to the department's web site.
It is located on the Maxwell Crossing Road between Route 750 and Route 3, near St. Stephen.
By contrast, the Hartland Covered Bridge first opened nine years earlier than the Maxwell Crossing Covered Bridge in 1901.
